Karen L. Rogers recognized for dedication to the field of laboratory animal medicine and surgery

    Collegeville, PA, March 8, 2010 /Science and Research PR News/ -- Dr. Karen L. Rogers, DVM, DACLAM, Director of the Department of Comparative Medicine at Pfizer Global Research and Development, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in scientific research and laboratory animal medicine and surgery.

With a degree in veterinary medicine and nearly two decades of professional experience, Dr. Karen L. Rogers is uniquely positioned to lead the Department of Comparative Medicine at Pfizer Inc., a pharmaceutical company. She currently holds the position of department director, where she is responsible for overseeing an 80,000 square foot animal facility, creating animal models for research purposes and ensuring the facility's compliance with federal regulations concerning animal welfare. Dr. Rogers is considered to be a foremost authority on animal modeling and laboratory animal medicine with experience in both the pharmaceutical industry and academia. Dr. Rogers holds a bachelor of science in chemistry with a neuroscience concentration from John Carroll University and graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University with a doctor of veterinary medicine in 1992. In 1993, she completed an internship at the Animal Hospital of Pittsford in Rochester, New York and, in 1998, completed her residency in laboratory animal medicine at the University of Michigan. Throughout her educational and professional career, Dr. Rogers' work has been honored with recognitions including multiple educational scholarships from John Carroll University, The Ohio State University's Veterinary Gross Anatomy Award, the Dr. Edwin R. & Mrs. Isabel Blamey scholarship for canine medicine and surgery and, most recently, Pfizer's Groton Colleague Recognition Award. In 1999, she became a diplomat of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM). For her success, Dr. Rogers credits her dedication to animal welfare and ethical research practices. Such dedication is evident in not only her work at Pfizer, but also her activity as a board member in the American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners, or as a member of American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, American Veterinary Medical Association, and others.
